…stays in Vegas

This morning, just before the alarm went off, I was digging through the carpeted stairs of a Las Vegas hotel to get enough money to finish James Caanmy game of poker with James Caan. I had found quite a bit and I was anxious to get back to the game. I knew I could beat him even though I only had a pair of aces and a pair of fours. He only had a pair showing, but I’m confident I could’ve won. It didn’t hurt that Rachel Griffiths was a Vegas showgirl who was playing the part of “lady luck” by standing at Rachel Griffithsmy side in full showgirl attire. Unfortunately, we’ll never know because I was interrupted by the alarm. The weird part is Aside: I know, as if that wasn’t weird enough already that we were playing in like a glitzy Vegas cafeteria replete with maitre’d and cloth napkins. I don’t know much about poker in casinos, but I don’t think it’s played like that. Anyway, it’s a bizarre dream because I don’t play much poker, especially with James Caan. I’m not averse to Rachel Griffiths…especially in that outfit, but why was she there? And I’ve never even been to Vegas, hence the cafeteria I suppose. I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night…but I may try it again, just to see if I can go all in with two pair.

So…what did you do this weekend? I hope you had a good time. C & I raked a few leaves…actually, more than a few. I don’t really know what to do with all these leaves. Hopefully that’s most of them. We also went to the Kentucky Book Fair in Frankfort. I highly recommend it for next year. I picked up some great books…one of my favorites, Lost Mountain, by Erik Reece. I got to meet Wendell Berry, Silas House and several other Kentucky authors. And we got signatures from a lot of the folks there. Very exciting. Then, we drove up to Hanover, from Frankfort, along 421…beautiful stretch of highway. We revisited where we got engaged. C said it still gave her butterflies, but it was a wonderful experience.

See you in the funny papers!
